Marianne Hellman
Västerås, Sweden
Marianne Hellman is a fiber artist working with organic materials, with a particular focus on jewellery art. She has extensive experience across a wide range of craft techniques, combining this knowledge with new methods and unexpected materials. Hellman previously studied silversmithing and, in 2023, completed a bachelor’s degree with a specialization in jewellery at Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts and Design. She is currently completing her MFA in the same field at Konstfack.

Her field of interest centers on the sustainable and respectful use of animal-derived marine materials. This includes questioning how and what we harvest from lakes, how we can make the most of these resources, and how new narratives might be developed around the challenges facing aquatic ecosystems.

"Bounties of Lake Vänern" is a silver jewellery collection featuring delicate inserts of fish skin. Guided by the motto “Everything we take from the lakes should be treated as a treasure,” Marianne employs natural and traditional techniques to tan fish skin, approaching the material with care and respect it deserves. The collection is made from 925 recycled silver and fish skin sourced from Lake Vänern, Sweden. The fish skin is tanned using ecological rapeseed oil, egg yolk, and soft soap.
